未知忘怀，不论言有尺，事有度，
诗以言志，歌以咏怀，应载作者之情，而非为贩硅胶之物。古今来不乏文巨匠以笔墨之音，或以悲悯为人，或以存丘壑，笔下逾风雷。今作者乃择异道，既不能赡善之味，又失戏之趣温。艺术之情，皆其情也，然必历几分之化也。艺术所用情非生粟之谓也。蔡文姬掷自还而不作《悲愤诗》，杜老在“入门闻号响，稚子饥已卒”，决无出《自京赴奉先咏怀五百字》。两诗皆痛思痛之所致也。艺家于有切情，必待之以形，必先立之以弱。燕主尝退立于客位者。众人不可布之端于一方之外也。观其情虽深，其所适虽多，终不为艺术。
又如《孟子·离娄下》，原文曰：“君子所以异于人者，以其存心也。君子以仁存心，以礼存心。仁者爱人，有礼者敬人。 爱人者，人恒爱之；敬人者，人恒敬之 。”戏则必秉此道，敬则玩之于外。故惧玩一家之情，无异于邻里为壑，以人之造曲作苦人之心非止有违伦尤于庶民之强奸。尝试问之，若夫戏世失温情和，但有冰寒之惧与硅胶，亦何由得之通哉？望燕主自新其自新。
