Apparently there's an extra for beating on very hard? I'm not patient enough to go through the game again at 1 save/25 levels (and no checkpoints before the bosses either), but surely someone braver has managed to do it before. Please let me know if it's worth it.
This game is a real flash into the past—100 floors of increasing difficulty, starting with no spikes and ramping up. The first genuinely challenging save for me was I think 93? Or somewhere around there. The bosses were mostly just really long, but still wonderfully designed. In particular I liked the pseudo-rhythm game and the paper airplane. This game puts a lot of attention into the detail of transitions and level presentation, and arguably about 15% of my playtime was taken up by 'interactive cutscenes', usually just walking through some harmless geometry for a few screens while the level-feeling changed.
There are a lot of 'fake trolls' in this game, which I appreciate more than actual trolls. One in particular made me laugh out loud for a while. And there is an ending cutscene for when you beat the game, which I thought was very nice. Overall, you can tell a lot of care was put into this game, and it shows, even if the platforming itself is a bit dated.
Also, this was my 50th clear. uwu

I feel like I sort of get it, but I also don't? Like, I think the needle you're playing is supposed to be a Picross-esque art piece of some kind... The song is nice enough but holy cow, starting the player falling into a diagonal meat-grinder (it's not a hard jump, you just die if you don't do anything) and having multiple off-screen kills with no saves... yeesh. This needs a lot of work if it was going to be playable IMO.

Played on hard mode. A very short needle game that also has some difficult but rewarding jumps. An avoidance boss at the end that is fairly easy but can be a little sweat-inducing. Also you have to do them in the right order. Fun overall.

Mostly forgettable stage-based gimmick needle (in that I literally pretty much completely forgot them) until the extra stage, where this game turns into precision needle horrorscape. I think for some more advanced players some of the stuff in the post-game screens would not be too bad, but for someone just working their way up the needle tower, there are multiple jumps that feel egregiously demanding, including a super f jump that is now burned into my brain.
The experience of slogging through these precision saves was definitely rewarding, but I almost feel like the extra stage should be a different game, considering how hard it is and how precise some of the jumps are. It took me a few weeks of putting this game down and going to practice with other, less punishing needle, to finally come back with enough skill to finish it. There's a jump on the last screen that can heavily benefit from A/D usage, if you're into that.

This felt like a trip into a distant dimension of the past. You have three colored stages of increasing difficulty (supposedly), each with a slightly higher implementation of this game's gimmick (timed moving spikes). Screens seem designed around one or two saves, which means playing on hard was about the right balance imo. Difficulty curve is all over the place, to the extent that I think the piss-cube rooms (yellow) are harder than the 'extra' stuff near the end. The tunes are okay, but the fourth one just starts to rock out before fading away and starting over again. And the avoidance boss at the very end is a borderline troll—for some reason, if you shoot it during its i-frame period, it regains health. So, if you spam it, expect to be there for what feels like the longest endurance test in the world, before you realize you can time your shots to the tiny "blump' noise it makes and get through the whole thing in about thirty seconds. The boss's second attack is harder than its first one, and there's a pseudo-troll afterwards as well, so get ready to replay it if you're a moron like I am.
A neat glimpse into the past, but I would not recommend this game for anyone—it is mostly just named jumps in annoying implementations and a ton of waiting for cycles, then a deliberately frustrating boss at the end. Hard pass.
