very trial-and-error gameplay where misses often result in the game intentionally crashing. if you follow a playthrough it's probably not that bad, difficulty rating based on blind playthrough!
also this game made me change my gamma settings because else i couldn't see anything in the end of spook house
HOWEVER! this game is definitely very.. unique. it's unplayable, but it is so in its own little way, like in the way that it tells you that anime is not real ;_;
here's a speedrun~ :o https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQqvUfkFxZ4

first things first.. despite the author's tone and intentions, if you are an actual beginner, you probably shouldn't get this game. it's not easy!
but there's still other aspects of the game to be reviewed!
it has a lot of content, with 8 fairly lengthy stages and 2 bosses.
each stage has a different gimmick, and the level design is quite interesting at times. at a lot of points the author is giving you random information and talking you through setups for the more "standard" jumps, which is cool but makes you wonder why he's doing it since there's often a lot of much harder stuff around these jumps.
song choices are also mostly very good. so far so good!
however, there are two main issues that really ruin the game.
there are a lot of very obnoxious minispikes in all stages, which only purpose seem to be to inflate the difficulty. maybe if they were removed the game could actually be played by the target audience?
but what really breaks this game.. are the visuals. i'd give it a negative rating since it's worse than having the default tilesets.
it's not that the graphical assets are bad, but the author manages to combine things in such a way that in almost every stage there are spikes and other things blending with the background. in the vine stage, you actually have to look closely to know if there is a vine in a block or not!
all in all, the game has potential but in its current state it's not very enjoyable, because these two bad points really hurt the experience.
the author shows some potential, so i hope he takes care of these points in his next releases!

hi ho kermit the frog here :o
i've actually beaten this game more than once by now, so yeah, i like this game. let's move on here
GOOD THINGS:
- really unique atmosphere that i can't put on words. that might be a bad thing for some but it's one of my favorite things about this game
- a lot of content (more than 10 stages), with varied gimmicks and (mostly) interesting and fun gameplay
- some bosses are pretty memorable (though most are pretty standard)
- good copyrighted music (your vods will be muted for sure)
- kermit the frog
BAD THINGS:
- a few saves feel very unbalanced
- the 32 pixel needle stage is unfun (though very original) and the boss in that area is also very lackluster
- some spots can be hard on the eyes (very bright), specially the space area boss might make you want to apply some gamma correction because the bullets just combine with the background so well
HONORABLE MENTIONS:
- screen transition kills. i'm not a fan of transition kills but i think they were mostly used decently, except in the 32 pixel needle stage where it feels a bit uncalled for
- traps. they were mostly creative, no real complaints here
i feel that the positive aspects more than compensate for the negative ones and think that this is a very original game worth at least a try for anyone of high enough skill. the atmosphere just doesn't strike a chord with everyone, though.
