I’ve never been super fond of these “thank you”-type games. I always saw them as gimmick-packed clusterfucks that hardly qualify as needle, to the point where I debate whether I should give them the Needle tag or not. these games are often so far removed from what needle means to me that I can’t tell what I’m even doing half the time. it all becomes a blur to me. however, and it’s a big however - what I greatly admire and respect is the fact that these games require a lot of time, effort, love and care to be put into them, as producing something of this quality is a mortifyingly difficult task. despite how much I dislike the premise and how I’m naturally opposed to this style of needle, I’m not particularly averted from these kinds of games. in Layman’s terms - I typically give them a shot
to further add to the circumstances: I’m essentially a traditionalist when it comes to fangames. I love the classics and I love stuff that references the classics. adventure games are the epitome of this idea, hence why they’re my favorite genre. avoidance follows closely behind, with needle being left at last. it’s not that I have a particular dislike for needle, but I find it typically less interesting than avoidance and adventure. all of these factors make it seem like this game is something I could never in a million years play, let alone enjoy. it is the antithesis to everything I would play and enjoy
with that being said, this game is immaculate. it’s fantastic, flows incredibly well and just works. at first, every screen in this game seems like the purest form of jank. learny, long, complicated and difficult. however, the more you play each save, the more it begins to sink in just how intricately and intelligently everything is designed. each screen is iconic to a good degree - to the point where I can pretty much recall all the screens in the game from memory. they’re so ‘one-of-a-kind’ that you can’t help but appreciate the genius that took to design them. some gimmicks in particular seem simple, but designing interesting needle around them is very difficult. prime example is the screen where you shoot a certain block, which then causes the other blocks adjacent to it to begin disappearing. that screen in particular is one of my favorites, as the actual gameplay around it is not only fun, but exceptionally genius. it’s one of those screens which you clear and then say to yourself: “man that was good. I don’t know how the maker even conceptualized this.”
last two saves are particularly notable and are the only reason the game is 80 to me. I feel the last two saves have been scientifically engineered to be the most mentally straining and awkward gameplay ever put in a videogame. I truly believe that there is nothing more confusing and uncomfortable that has ever been put in a videogame that I’ve heard of. I won’t spoil more than I already have, but expect some insane bullshit unlike anything you’ve seen before
music kinda blows, I don’t know why literally any other music wasn’t chosen. it’s rare for me to completely mute games I’m playing

ancient precision game with a few rather iconic screens. it has a fairly low tech requirement, only requiring one somewhat difficult cancel at the end. it’s the plane urethra with one pixel you can stand on that requires said cancel. this is only on god difficulty, though. the other two (normal and maniac) are under 50 and are generally very easy. the difficulty select for god is definitely a thing I haven’t seen in a while. a bunch of japanese text on a background with one warp. it’s reminiscent of old eastern games which I kinda like. tileset on god difficulty is quite ugly, but it’s a charming kind of ugly which I enjoy

pretty annoying Miku avoidance preceded by one screen of nothingburger needle. it's just a bunch of classic tomo patterns and RNG, with most of the difficulty being focused at the pattern after the bouncing. thankfully, all the hard RNG in the avoidance is entirely seeded, which is nice considering how difficult/luck-based the avoidance would be without it. generally, it isn't very fun to play for whatever reason. the patterns aren't that interesting to execute and the RNG isn't fun to dodge. the hardest attack is the black spiral at the end. it often requires some difficult dodges and is kind of difficult to improvise. it's necessary to mention how uninspired and boring the song is
I find it very funny how tomo misspelled the name of the .zip file that contains the game's executable. good job

generic needle game with some slightly interesting pathing near the end. it's a quick clear and doesn't feature many prominent chokejumps or balancing issues. it's a surprisingly smooth experience for what the maker is known for (i.e. Coffee's CN side stage, being one of the less fun areas). it's a pleasant surprise in that sense. it features two stages which are largely in the same style. there's also a pathing issue/oversight somewhere near the end of the game, I believe it's in the 2nd-to-last screen. you appear to be able to skip the entire second and third saves

two really good classic-style Miku fights by LunarMagic. both are pretty good, but the right warp is much better, more difficult and has one of the best Miku songs ever made. this game doesn't look too interesting and is relatively unknown, but I urge you to give it a shot if you like classic Miku stuff or just old avoidance in general. both avoidances mostly consist of simple patterns that are quite easy to learn and are fun to execute. they also have some RNG, but it's nothing insane. right warp is harder, left warp is easier
left warp has less interesting avoidance design and an okay song. it isn't the highlight of the game, but it isn't necessarily bad or unfun. there's some remembering what to do near the end, but for the most part it's pretty readable and easy to understand. right warp is the highlight of the game - fun design, good difficulty and (as I said) one of the best Miku songs ever created. it's iconic and fits the theme of the avoidance very well. there's one pretty annoying pattern at the very end which isn't really easy to understand, but everything before it is extremely fun and well-designed. it has some of the best, if not *the* best flow of any old avoidance I've ever played. despite being nothing special for current-year standards, I feel it still holds up quite well considering its age
