For: I wanna be the Kataribe
For: I wanna be the Kataribe
Kataribe is a nice little adventure game where you get to play as some peculiar little marshmallow-like character, as you venture throughout a variety of relatively short stages and boss fights. Whilst the game has a good amount of stages, none of them overstay their welcome and the bosses don't get too complicated or overly tanky, so the game doesn't end up too lengthy either.
Every stage focuses on a similar style of platforming, this being just standard easy'ish needle with some moving hazards along the way and a sprinkling of traps. There's good variance between stages so that they don't all just feel the same, but don't expect too much to change gimmick-wise. The bosses have some pretty cool visual effects going on despite their simplicity, and the attacks are for the most part all fun to dodge and play around, making for a nice round-off to each stage.
I did find a good deal of the platforming to be kind of forgettable, but that's not to say it was bad necessarily. Moreso, the bosses felt like the main attraction for me, and the platforming was often just a pleasant walk with some traps causing a bump along the way. A fun game overall though, and a good pick for an easier oldschool-y adventure.

For: I wanna make a Sandwich
For: I wanna make a Sandwich
Make a Sandwich tells the story of The Kid venturing off to collect a variety of sacred ingredients, each more tasty and nutritious than the last. These are all placed across wacky parts of the world ranging from icy caverns to gothic castles, and features a very compelling story with good worldbuilding and lore to wrap it all together, making for a whimsical adventure you won't soon forget.
Flashy buzzwords aside, it really is a fantastic adventure game. The stage variety is very impressive, making for lots of creative platforming alongside some very fun gimmicks here and there. Some highlights include the little Battletoad segment which felt like a really nice break from standard platforming, and also the missile gimmick near the end. It also maintains a good sense of humour, having some light-hearted moments and a couple of amusing cutscenes and extras.
The bosses are also all very well designed. One thing I particularly liked was that none of them felt overly tanky, and there were always good chances for damage with most of them letting you cut out a cycle by optimizing your shots a bit better. The final boss in particular deserves a special mention, with Geezer doing a great job bringing the story together in a very charming way and showcasing a lot of flair and production value in a fast-paced and very enjoyable finale.
There were a few segments that I got slightly hung up on, but other than a couple of potentially questionable RNG-platforming segments, there weren't really any parts that I can say I didn't enjoy. It's just a great game all around, and you'll even learn a thing or two along the way about the ingredients you collect!
It's great to see it finished after all this time, as it's a great adventure experience all-around. Absolutely worth your time!

For: I Wanna Conquer the Chaos Cave
Chaos Cave is a fun little game consisting of two segments, these being a spiky descent through a needle filled cave and a HP-based barrage avoidance, both utilizing a washed-out and easy-on-the-eyes colour scheme.
The needle is enjoyable, and each screen follows a certain theme often utilizing a specific spike formation. The jumps all feel well thought out and there's nothing too bumpy in difficulty. Save points are also generously placed so there's no long-save heartbreaks to be had. I do think sometimes the number of spikes can detract from the visuals as it makes a couple screens look quite cluttered, although the glowing visual effect does complement it nicely.
The avoidance is very nicely designed, with a lot of thought to the infinite jump arena you're given and the lenience of having 3 HP. The small visual touches make the fight look very polished and are just subtle enough to not be distracting. Attacks are also nicely synced up the song, which is worthy of a SourPls or two. My only real issue was the second-to-last attack where bullets spiral from out of the arena towards the middle, which just felt kinda chaotic and uncertain to read for me. There's a good chance I was doing a bad strat, so maybe others will have a better time.
If you hitless the avoidance, you unlock an extra piece of platforming which is a reworked version of the needle stage, featuring new music and more spikes. The screen layouts and paths are the same, but with some more difficulty packed in. Some jumps felt a bit overly cramped, but it was again, enjoyable.
Well worth a play. Even if you're opposed to one of the two things this game has to offer, the game presents you the option of starting with either the needle or the avoidance right from the get-go, so it's a nice way to let the player decide what they want to focus on.

For: I wanna find the Guy
For: I wanna find the Guy
In true Marimario style, Find the Guy is an anime-themed adventure game with a fairly heavy emphasis on triggers and traps, alongside some lovable rascals in the form of boss fights.
The game features many different stages, most of which carry a similar style of platforming. There are however a few exceptions which mix up the visual style quite drastically, referencing older games and utilising some nice little gimmicks here and there. Despite not being a giant fan of trap-heavy platforming, I had a good time with most of it. The bosses were also nice and different, with none of them reaching too far in difficulty.
I'd probably recommend looking up the solution to the first question of the quiz stage, as unless you're good enough at Japanese you'll have a hard time getting the answer (if you need the answer, it's お試し. It's only the first question that goes across languages though, and the rest are all fair enough to figure out with a bit of head scratching.
If you're looking a pleasant little adventure leaning on the trap side of things then you'll probably have some fun with this.

For: I wanna stop the Time
For: I wanna stop the Time
Stop the Time is a great little adventure consisting of 5 stages, each with their own little theme and collection of amusing traps and quirky little gimmicks.
Each stage brings something a little different, whether it's the 4-crystal gimmick which lets you change the speeds and sizes of The Kid, or the mouse-related hijinks that ensue when an anime girl decides to start blowing you up with orange cherry bombs. What I liked a great deal is that the gimmicks don't overstay their welcome, and each screen feels different enough to not make the game feel tedious at any point.
There are traps aplenty, but they're all done pretty well. Most of the traps revolve around some anime/VN girl popping up and causing some crazy shenanigans. The variety of the traps was pretty impressive, often tying themselves into the stage gimmick.
Stop the Time also has a good little selection of bosses and avoidances. The bosses have a decent variety of attacks and all feel fair and reactable. Some perhaps could've done with more HP, because it felt like they were over a little fast. The avoidances are also short and relatively simple, and the pace of the game magically does not get ruined on these few occasions.
If you want a good time with an adventure and don't mind some whimsical anime-themed traps then you'll settle in just right with this one.
