For: I wanna be the Huge
For: I wanna be the Huge
Huge is a mostly trap-focused fangame consisting of around 4 stages, each with a boss to round things off. The entire game has a space theme to it and the tileset more-or-less stays identical throughout, with a hue change on each stage (so don't expect to be wowed by flashy visuals and production value here).
I found the level design to be fine. The traps aren't really the funny kind (well, maybe a few are) and really just exist to add another trivial'ish thing to memorize on your next attempt. Not really my kind of thing, but it also didn't feel offensive to get through or anything. There are some cool ideas with the platforming, although there are some real clangers for the cycle-based platforming in this game. Let's just say that fast cycles clearly weren't always a consideration here.
The bosses I found to be fairly fun, although the final boss gave me more frustration than I had expected. They're all RNG-centered, with my favourite one being the 3rd boss where you get to fight some badly cropped wrinkly toad with about 20 gemstones wadged into the skin. The attacks here felt pretty fun and varied despite their simplicity.
Is the game as huge as the title implies? Well, the stages sure feel like they drag on a little longer than I'd hope for, and the size of some of your opponents can certainly give a David vs. Goliath feel. It does feel like it lacks in variety in a lot of spots (minus the bosses), and feels kind of mundane to plod through at times. Still, I did have some fun with it and it's interesting enough to keep me going throughout.
Also the credits are pretty HUGE.

Good Wifi is easily one of the best trap games I've played. Lots of well thought out and elaborate traps fill the game, without ever feeling tedious or frustrating to get through.
You will feel like a genius one moment thinking you've outsmarted the game, only to have the rug tugged under your feet moments later, THEN only to realise there were five more rugs beneath that one waiting to be pulled as well.
The game isn't too long, consisting of about 2 stages in length. If you're a fan of trap games at all you owe it to yourself to try this one.

Current version 1.25 (as of 6th Mar 2021)
RO is a trigger needle game featuring a multitude of stages and a couple of bosses! It began primarily as a Rukito-inspired game, but strayed away from that a little as development went on into different ideas, and as it is I'd say it's a weird hybrid of Rukito-style/Vandal/something else. I put a lot of time and effort into refining the game and making it as fun as I could for the style I went for, so hopefully people have a good time with it!
Update note: As of v1.2, the game has a few different difficulty warps! But please note all they do is remove save points. No platforming is changed in any way. There is a ever-so-slightly different clear screen though if you're hunting for some style points.

I waited a few months to review this game (totally not because I got sidetracked and forgot or anything, it was absolutely intentional) to see how well it would stand looking back on it. My opinion hasn't really changed since then. Save My Boy is a stellar gimmick-needle/adventure fangame with consistently interesting design and most importantly heavy memorability to it.
One thing I always hope to see in fangames that really makes them stand out to me isn't necessarily just great platforming design, although that's obviously a large factor too. If this game was just 100 rooms of the quality platforming it provides without any of the in-betweens, I don't think it'd stick with me quite as much. All the little things that tie it together, be it the silly little dialogue cutscenes, the quirky boss fights and the zany yet charming little story interspersed between the stages make it feel more like a game. Any fangame that does something like this will always stand out more to me than something that's just a collection of rooms strung loosely together.
And of course given the design quality of Save My Boy is very interesting and carefully constructed throughout just about the entire game, the two of these factors combine to make a great and memorable fangame, and one that I hope people will take ideas from many years down the line to further their own projects.

Hydrohomies is a needle collab between six of us with the overarching theme of using catharsis water in our stages. We made this over the course of 4 weeks or so, splitting various production work among the team and each contributing our own unique stages, alongside the implementation of saving progress if you decide to back out of a stage. We think there's something in here for everyone, and we all had a fun time making it. Hopefully you can enjoy it too!
Who knows, maybe you'll even discover some surprising reveals by the end...
