Bio:
Hi everyone, I'm Fruitless, that guy you're probably familiar with by now for some reason or another. I'm just here trying to have some fun and hopefully not cause any problems.
My rating scale works in intervals of 2 points, and my difficulty scale works in intervals of 5.
-10/10: absolute must play, reserved for only the highest quality fangames out there
-8/10: high recommendation, but not quite among the best of the best
-6/10: a perfectly fine and well-made game, but with some flaws holding it back
-4/10: an ok game, but I can't guarantee you'll enjoy it
-2/10: outright bad and unfun, and an experience that I just can't recommend to most people
-0/10: absolute garbage, reserved for only the lowest quality fangames out there
Additionally, my favorites list is reserved for games I felt were an 8/10 or higher.
I try not to be too harsh of a critic, although I do tend to internalize a game's flaws more than its strengths, especially with higher difficulty fangames, so that likely affects my reviews. I've tried to adjust my ratings to get around this problem, but keep in mind that this is a thing that does happen.
I'm also not good with words in general, so if there is something I liked or didn't like about a game, I might not be able to explain it well or why I felt the way I did. I still try to explain if you would like the game or not, but it's still something I struggle to get across, so keep that in mind too.
One of my goals as a reviewer is to be consistent in what I find fun between games, although other factors or biases may creep in sometimes. I try to avoid that happening, but just keep in mind that it is a thing that happens sometimes.

For: I Wanna Be The Awesome
For: I wanna be the GB
I Wanna Be The GB is one of THE classic adventure games, earning itself a spot among some of the most famous in fangame history. The game itself takes A LOT of inspiration from IWBTG's design philosophy, but doesn't quite recreate the magic that made it so special originally. There are still traps all over the place, but the unpredictability of it doesn't quite measure up to the level of excitement that Guy gave off. Also, the game still has many retro game references, but this time, limiting itself to only use sources from the Nintendo Game Boy—games ranging in obscurity (at least to the west) from "カエルの為に鐘は鳴る" to "Tetris", and everything in between—hence the game's title.
The design is exactly what you would expect out of 2009, flying spike traps and all. Still, it clearly displays a lot of creativity, especially for this era, so I will give it some credit for that. The bosses are also kind of fun, but are bogged down by the insane amounts of HP long before 下西アリス set foot anywhere near the community, and some of the bosses' attacks giving incredibly dense and unreadable RNG. Mario is credited as one of the worst ones in this regard, but the final boss especially can go fuck itself, due to being the longest fight in the whole game, giving many more opportunities for such blockades to occur, which is just as unfun as it sounds.
The aesthetics also heavily resemble that of the source materials, and you know what that means—dark green visuals all the way. I like how authentic it looks, but other than that, it just looks really ugly. The overall production value is still really poor besides this, though; for a game of this age, this is also to be expected. Restarting music as well, so have fun dealing with that.
The game also has a bunch of secrets to find (11 in total), mostly hidden behind walls. Some of these are honestly contenders for the worst part of the whole game, because holy fuck these are stupidly designed, the Tetris secret in particular is VERY far down there. However, most of the rest were fine-ish, but I absolutely do not recommend going for all of them.
Despite all the complaints I have with the game, there is still a lot to enjoy about it. The game showcases a lot of creativity and original ideas, as I said earlier. Not many fangame reference points existed at the time, so this game had very little to work off of in terms of that, and yet Ashimoto still managed to come up with this many ideas to put into the game. Which, if you ask me, is kind of an accomplishment.
The irony about that is the amount of works that would come out at a later point, and take inspiration from this game. It is an old classic, so of course that is to be expected. The most common example is, of course, the opening rooms, used countless times in fangame after fangame, to the point where there was literally an entire fangame, I Wanna Be The GBC, made just around this one room! (honestly, why were you ever expecting me NOT to plug that here)
So overall, if you are the kind of person to enjoy older adventure fangames like this, and the charm they give off, this game has many elements that are sure to please you.
With that being said, the game is still very outdated in terms of design, so your perspective on fangames is gonna very heavily determine whether you see this as a masterpiece or as a mess. If you are one to enjoy this style of games, this game is perfect for you, but otherwise, I wouldn't recommend this one unless you have the patience to deal with it. And believe me when I say, you will need patience to deal with this, especially if you actually do decide to go for the secret items.

You're welcome.
For: I wanna break through Leehe Trap
Two screens of a bunch of generic jumps, mainly planes and ledges and inverts. That's literally all it is.
Of course, you won't be able to experience much of that, due to the jump in save 2 that got so infamous that it's literally the only the only reason people know about this game, and thus named the "Leehe triple diamond" accordingly.
To top it all off, the game lacks Leehe's trademark visual style, instead opting for default Guy Castle bricks and star background. Did I mention the music (or lack thereof)?
Overall, don't even bother. Literally no effort was put into this, his other games are light years better than this.
For: I wanna be the Spirit
I Wanna Be The Spirit is an old Boshy clone made for the streamer PD GreatSpirit. I tried this one a while ago, but got stuck due to a bug with the engine that deleted my save file. After 5 years (August 2026), I came back to beat the game for real and write this review, which you realistically won't see due to it not appearing on the front page, but who's stopping me.
This game's stages have some cool ideas, such as rolling snowballs, sawblade spawners, the KartRider race, the World's Hardest Game, and even more. However, the stages they're used in don't always use them to their fullest potential, due to how short they are sometimes. Even besides that, the traps used here are not very good, mostly being flying spikes, and the YoSniper engine physics can really mess with the game sometimes. There's also the Tetris world with the rotating camera, which is thankfully the only stage in the game you encounter this, as it is really hard to progress forward when you can't see what you're doing.
Onto the bosses now, and since this game is based on Boshy, prepare to mash the shoot button a lot. It doesn't help that the game doesn't give you autofire on any difficulty (at least not until you beat the game and unlock GreatSpirit as a playable character), so either bring your own or prepare to get carpal tunnel.
-Remguri is a pretty easy boss, although she still takes a bit to learn what to do. Once you get past that though, it's pretty easy to actually do it.
-Up next is a secret boss in the second stage, an avoidance fight against Paku, featuring the theme song from TOKYO HOT of all things (it is a pretty good song though, I can see why it was used). Anyway, this one has a lot of a lot of attacks that require you to learn them, mostly circles and aimed bullets that force you to aim them in a specific way and make tight maneuvers. There's also a bunch of memes featured in this fight, but the parts featuring them usually aren't very difficult. It's a fun boss once you learn everything, but it definitely takes a bit to get there, especially with the bullets coming from offscreen.
-Banana amps up the difficulty a bit though, as not only do the patterns take some time to learn, but they're actually kind of tight to dodge this time around, especially with the walls from the sides. There's also a bullet spray from the top of the screen which comes out at a really weird angle, as well as screenshake in the pattern immediately after that.
-Bullant and Murdoc are up next, both of whom you fight at the same time. You might be worried about seeing Super Sonic used in this fight, but he's actually really easy to manipulate to stay out of your way, even with the other attacks happening at the same time. Said attacks aren't particularly an issue, except for one RNG attack near the end which can give rough spawns sometimes.
-Up next is Kim Taek-Hwan, which is where the game starts to show its true colors. This boss has attacks that force you to stand at very specific parts of the screen, not giving you a lot of time to get over there. He also throws a very big and very fast projectile at you that forces you to jump outside of the screen momentarily, followed by more big projectiles that force you to do a lot of mashing to destroy them. This is why I said to be prepared to do some mashing, because the game absolutely demands you to be able to do so by this point.
-Robok is up next, with 2 waves of circles moving up and down throughout the whole boss, although they're not evenly spaced, having way more easy openings on the right than the left. Beyond that, though, here's where the RNG actually starts to become a real problem, since he shoots out some really sense waves of projectiles with big hitboxes (even bigger than the fireball sprite would lead you to believe, since the trail is counted as a hitbox too), and it can just decide to wall you sometimes. Mashing is also an issue here too, although that might just be because I decided to do a quicker strat on this boss than was likely intended.
-At last, we have the final boss, PD GreatSpirit himself, and what a fight it is. It's divided up into 2 checkpoints, the second one being way more than the first one. As for said first phase though, it starts out with some more mashing (or I could just be impatient again, there are more attacks beyond that), and from then on out it just turns into the Solgryn fight. The orbs phase is annoying because YoSniper engine's platforms are terrible and will push you directly out of them into harm's way unless you jump at a very specific point, and the Gradius phase is better, although the hitbox of the ship is kind of confusing, I would have preferred it to be a rectangle or oval. The next checkpoint, however, is where shit starts to get real. After a brief encounter with Eri Kasamoto featuring some more patterns, we get to the final phase, which is a vertical shmup as opposed to horizontal like before, actually giving you HP this time. This phase has some more patterns and RNG attacks, but they're not an issue, aside from the rose petals and TNT being particularly brutal sometimes. However, after that comes the wheel, which sends you back to the previous bosses of the game for a short time. If you get hit here, not only do you get sent back to the wheel, but the boss heals himself, and it is a pretty substantial heal too. Now you have to relearn all the previous bosses' patterns and pray for good RNG, especially since Kim Taek-Hwan is broken now for some reason and won't despawn the chasing projectile, pretty much guaranteeing forced damage. Some patterns are harder to learn than others, but with enough persistence (and luck, of course), it is still possible.
So yeah, clearly a game with a lot to it. Some of it is good, some of it is quite frustrating, but as a game overall, I wouldn't say I regretted playing it. Even if it's objectively not that good of a game, I ended up enjoying it. Recommended if you like older Boshy clones like this, but be warned that you'll need a lot of patience to deal with it (and very strong wrists as well). Or just play on Easy mode, if you feel like that's a better idea.
