A work in progress project submitted for the shortventure contest, Endless Mirage is an ambitious undertaking that promises to keep growing. Its a fully custom engine with custom artwork everywhere that both feels different but captures the fangame feel. Even as a demo it has a decent amount of content, though don't expect anything epic yet.
Overall, everything looks amazing and gameplay is very smooth. There's a couple rough edges as you'd expect from a WIP but this is a great beginner friendly game, as it feels a little halfway between a more traditional platformer and the precision of a fangame. Its a great example of something big to come and feels pretty spoiler free for what will come in the future, so feel free to get a taste without feeling like you're spoiling the excitement of finding out what Tralexium manages in the long run.

Another phenomenal production by Mattin in his classic style with the Shortventure theme. Dark atmosphere with a castlevania inspired aesthetic filled with twisted enemies and environments. Arguably a lot more linear than many of his previous works, that distinction doesn't hurt the feeling of exploration you get investigating the little world he's created here.
A variety of platforming gimmicks and obstacles keeps things fresh and a few interesting encounters keep this not-so-short shortventure interesting and exciting. This game is very accessible to new players and quite lenient, yet with enough dynamic interactions to still keep a more experienced player engaged - its easily recommendable to anyone who likes adventure games.

Truly a monumental needle game.
Its important to note, most of all, that this is an easier version - it is not easy.
I'm a fan of the series, largely for the creative level design present. QoQoQo1 established the basic idea - loopy rooms with paths that frequently involving passing over a single point as much as possible. QoQoQo2 expanded it by adding more gimmicks and an intimidating multi-screen room. This game elevates itself well past that - adding and mixing gimmicks and throwing multiscreen mazes into all of it.
The series was always about the larger room design and never the individual jumps and when qoqoqo3 came out and there was a greater focus on jump design - it felt good. Then it kind of fell apart, it was still the grind and precision started detracting from the general level design which is what drew me to the series to begin with, so when this version came out it was an easy switch.
As far as easy versions go this is a big deal - its done by the creator and its done in a way that keeps the essence of the game while making it easier - a feat that cannot have been easy to achieve given the design style of the game.
Arzztt's review contains most of the details about the game and encapsulates well what its about. I just want to echo that I've never been gripped by a needle segment like the end of the game. I normally treat needle as something to pick up and put down at a moment, but its very hard to stop once you start. The combined intrigue of figuring out where to go mixed with the fear that you blew it somewhere and the general awe that its even possible to create a needle maze of that magnitude is a real experience.
Overall, there are a lot of needle games that shine in various ways. This is absolutely one of them, excelling in its way far beyond any other. For anyone who appreciates creative design in needle - play this version of the game. If you just want tight jumps, tough maneuvers and a serious needle grind, this will probably not fit you. If you want both, play the regular version. Its not a perfect game, but its far and away the most memorable needle game to release.
PS. Make a map or you'll regret it.

A short gimmick needle game with an interesting take/expansion on screen wrapping. However, a good idea was sadly taken hostage by questionable design across the board and mediocre implementation.
Its interesting enough to take a look at perhaps as a concept, but hard to recommend it as worth the time to play.

Overall its a really interesting adventure game. Rating will be based on regular completion - there are secrets that seem to contain a bit of additional content but I'd only done a couple and was not a fan - that said there is no content locked behind it as far as I'm aware and won't be counted against it. The production overall was solid with a lot of details in each stage (and credits were really cool). The issue with this was I was not a fan of the screenshake used during certain boss segments.
Its a marathon style game, featuring stages from various different other games reworked and worked into the fangame world. The picks are very retro, as you'd imagine from the name, contrary to the other marathon games from this year which have much more contemporary picks. This is followed by a more traditional fangame stage.
The stages are a mixed bag. They're distinguished between more action heavy combat stages with enemies and more platforming heavy stages. The action segments are definitely the high point - these ended up being a lot of fun with a lot of interesting ideas. The platforming segments tended to have a lot of annoying stuff and weren't quite as good, though they definitely had interesting ideas and kept it varied.
The bosses started quite simplistic and got more complicated and creative as the game went on. They tended to be quite RNG heavy though, almost excessively so in parts that it was at time frustrating. This culminated with a really cool final boss that really stood out. The problem, however, seemed like a classic fangame issue where the final boss for some reason was substantially harder than anything else in the game and it's not unreasonable to expect to spend more than half of the entire playtime on that single boss. Fortunately it has an immense amount of variety of style within the first phase of the single boss, so it didn't feel stale.
Overall the game has some really high highs (stage 5, final boss p1) and a lot of mediocre parts, but in the end was certainly worth it. I generally felt that the further it strayed from the classic fangame formula, the better it was as it showcased a lot of creativity and good ideas where the needle and avoidance felt pretty generic. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a quite challenging adventure-ish marathon game as long as they don't mind looking past a few rough spots.
